CrossCheck at conferences in April and May

Just to let you know about some upcoming opportunities to hear more about CrossCheck and the issues surrounding plagiarism in academic publishing.

At the Manuscript Central user meeting on Monday 20th April, Carol Meyer will be speaking alongside John Barrie, the CEO of our technology partner iParadigms. Their session, at the ScholarOne offices in Charlottesville VA, will cover CrossCheck and the iThenticate system, which is soon to be integrated into Manuscript Central.

On Tuesday May 5th I will be moderating a panel on plagiarism at the Council of Science Editors meeting in Pittsburgh. During the session we will be hearing from:

Harvey Markovitch from the Committee on Publication Ethics, who will talk about the COPE guidelines on dealing with plagiarism
Bernie Rous from the Association for Computing Machinery, who will discuss the ACM’s experiences with plagiarism, and why they are participating in CrossCheck
Harold “Skip” Garner, who has been leading the work at the University of Texas to establish levels of undetected plagiarism in PubMed content. Garner’s work has received coverage recently in both Nature and Science, and makes for very interesting reading.
Due to popular demand we are now running the “Introduction to CrossCheck” webinar on a monthly basis. You can see the available dates and sign up for the sessions on our website.

We look forward to seeing some of you in Charlottesville and Pittsburgh.
