Warm needling therapy for sciatica: A randomized controlled trial

Abstract

Objective

To assess the clinical effect of warm needling therapy in managing sciatica.

Methods

Fifty patients with sciatica were randomized into a treatment group and a control group, 25 in each. The treatment group received warm needling therapy, and the control received ordinary acupuncture therapy. The treatment effects were assessed after three treatment sessions.

Results

The cured rate and total effective rate were 68.0% and 88.0% respectively in the treatment group, versus 36.0% and 66.0% in the control, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05).

Conclusion

Warm needling therapy can effectively improve the clinical symptoms in managing sciatica, with better effects compared with ordinary acupuncture therapy.

目的

观察温针灸治疗坐骨神经痛的临床疗效。

方法

将50 例坐骨神经痛患者随机分成两组, 治疗组25 例, 采用温针灸治疗, 对照组25 例, 单用针刺治疗。 观察两组患者治疗3 个疗程后的临床疗 效。

结果

治疗组治愈率为68.0%, 总有效率为88.0%, 明显优于对照组的36.0%和66.0%, 两组差异具 有统计学意义(P<0.05)。

结论

温针灸治疗坐骨神经痛能有效地改善临床症状, 疗效优于单纯针刺治疗。
