Abstract

We present a theoretical model to describe polarization-entanglement generation by spontaneous parametric down conversion in a transverse pump configuration. It takes into account the effect of a resonant microcavity for the pump beam and gives a direct link between the level of generated entanglement and the spatial profile of the pump beam. A pumping scheme leading to the generation of high quality Bell states is proposed.
