Jennifer Kemp

Jennifer has moved on from Crossref. Jennifer Kemp was Head of Partnerships at Crossref, where she worked with members, service providers, and metadata users to improve community participation, metadata, and discoverability. Prior to Crossref, she had been most recently Senior Manager of Policy and External Relations, North America for Springer Nature. Her experience in scholarly publishing began with her work as a Publication Manager at HighWire Press, where she had a variety of clients publishing in a wide range of disciplines. Jennifer’s perspective on the industry remained influenced by her years as a librarian, and she was active in a number of community initiatives. At Crossref, she facilitated the Books Interest Group, Funder Advisory Group, and the Metadata User Working Group. She also served on the Next Generation Library Publishing Advisory Board, the Library Publishing Coalition Preservation Task Force, and the Open Access eBook Usage (OAeBU) Board of Trustees.

Free public data file of 112+ million Crossref records

A lot of people have been using our public, open APIs to collect data that might be related to COVID-19. This is great and we encourage it. We also want to make it easier. To that end we have made a free data file of the public elements from Crossref’s 112.5 million metadata records. The file (65GB, in JSON format) is available via Academic Torrents here: https://doi.org/10.13003/83B2GP It is important to note that Crossref metadata is always openly available.

Good, better, best. Never let it rest.

Best practices seem to be having a moment. In the ten years since the Books Advisory Group first created a best practice guide for books, the community beyond Crossref has developed or updated at least 17 best practice resources, as collected here by the Metadata 2020 initiative. (Full disclosure: I co-chair its Best Practices group.)

Event Data enters Beta

We’ve been talking about it at events, blogging about it on our site, living it, breathing it, and even sometimes dreaming about it, and now we are delighted to announce that Crossref Event Data has entered Beta.

Outreach Day DC. Next Up? You Tell Us

Rallying the community is a key Crossref role. Sometimes this means collaborating on new initiatives but it is also an ongoing process, a cornerstone of our outreach efforts. Part of rallying the community is bringing people together, literally, in a series of outreach days around the globe. It means we encourage dialog with us and among members and non-publisher affiliates. We want to hear from the community and we hope to facilitate conversations in it.
